Open Call: Rift Storytelling Residency (Eshtebak)

Rift Storytelling Residency, is a six-week intensive program that designed to empower emerging Sudanese creative content producers with the tools and knowledge to thrive in the world of storytelling.

The residency program is a transformative experience that provides participants with expert instruction, mentorship, and a supportive environment to develop their creative voices. Through interactive online sessions, and hands-on projects, residents will explore various storytelling mediums and techniques.

This comprehensive program covers a diverse range of creative disciplines, led by experienced Sudanese professionals.

Rift Storytelling Residency Program Structure:

Phase 1: Online Residency: (Six Weeks)
Number of the online sessions: 14 sessions
Duration of the online session per day: 5 hours
Dates: From January 20, 2025 to February 28, 2025
This initial phase will be conducted entirely online over a period of six weeks. All selected participants will engage in online workshops, mentorship sessions, and collaborative activities.

Phase 2: Physical Residency in Rwanda: (Four Weeks) after June 2025
Following the online phase, Four participants will be selected from the entire group to participate in a fully funded, in-person residency in Rwanda. This phase will provide an opportunity for deeper collaboration, focused project development, and immersive cultural exchange.

Eligibility Criteria for the Rift Storytelling Residency Program:

- Must be a Sudanese citizen.
- Must be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application.
- Must have at least one year of experience in creative content production.
- Must have produced at least one piece of creative content.
- Submit a creative project idea that they intend to develop during the residency.
- Must be able to commit to the full duration of the residency program (six weeks).
- Priority will be given to Sudanese residents in Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, South Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Chad.
